Peacock inspired mardi gras

The idea of going to Mardi Gras has always enchanted me – it seems so darn celebratory.  I have been to New Orleans many times, but visiting during Mardi Gras would be like entering utopia.  An explosion of color, parades, jazz and revelry surrounded by history and très délicieux creole and cajun food.  Failing a journey to the Bayou state, you can always host your own Mardi Gras extravaganza.  For a short history of Mardi Gras, check out the story here.  Brought to New Orleans by the French, it may also explain why the mere mention of the place starts my mouth to watering.

Create the mood with a themed party invitation.  I couldn’t resist this cute little vintage number – confetti gets me every time. Host a masquerade party, Carnival or jazz themed party for Mardi Gras, New Year’s or anytime your soul needs a little lift!  At home, Mardi Gras can be a celebration of color and pretty.  Especially when you combine the signature purple, green and gold into a peacock inspired theme.

There are myriad of great places to get your party supplies, and the most important thing is to trick out your place with as much bling as possible.  Beads, ornaments, feathers, balloons – get it all! And get in the party mood with a little acid jazz…  now we are cooking!

Ah, New Orleans.  Your food is epic.  Yes, I could sit down at your table and satiate my inner 300lb foodie any time.  I count myself lucky to have hosts in this charming city who have taken me to some of the local gems.  Mr. B’s legendary BBQ Shrimp.  Shrimp Po’ Boys at some hole-in-the-wall spot to remain nameless (primary cuz I have forgotten).

And the namesake fear-inducing drink – the Hurricane.  Those wood-alcohol fired slurpee machines could tell a lot of tales –

Your fête would not be complete without paying homage to that Beignet Institution, Café du Monde.  These jazzy little numbers are relatively easy to make – I have tried them at home using that fabulous airport parting gift – the Café du Monde Box Mix!
