Well, this is a new one… I googled the recipe for the AWESOME party snack mix I made a couple of years ago for Christmas gifts, and I couldn’t find it. What the what? An internet search doesn’t immediately deliver the precise results into your hot little hands in a mere 0.26 seconds? This is unheard of. Salivating through my round up of delicious home made sweet and savory snack mixes, I knew I had to share this fantastic little number – but where the heck was it hiding?
Cue recipe file. Yep, I had to kick it old school and bust out the accordion file of all my recipe clippings for the past 15 or so years. I have been meaning to sort through this bad boy for a while now, but is there ever really a good time for this type of activity? It’s on the perpetual to do list. Well, what a joy it was to dive into this recipe volume of greatest hits! To be reunited with some of my tried and true friends, handwritten favorites from grandmother, mother and sisters passed along with love and even a customized menu for my BFF (who can’t cook and wanted to impress a suitor). And that was just the first sleeve!
Then it appeared. Like a phoenix out of the flames… ok, maybe not quite that dramatic but I knew I had struck recipe gold as soon as I laid eyes on it! This tasty little snack mix is the crack I tell you. Sweet and savory at the same time, with a little kick of citrus for good measure. Swathed in a velvety layer of white chocolate. Dang, I should write for J. Peterman or the Trader Joe’s fearless flyer. Or, make a whack of this stuff and sell it to Trader Joe’s to put in the Fearless Flyer. Now that’s Gold…
Without further ado, here’s the gorgeous recipe shared by my sister who has her finger on the pulse of this holiday baking thing. I’m going to put a batch together shortly, so I can share pictures of this drool-worthy confection with you.
Simply titled “Christmas Candy”
Combine in a large bowl:
– 4 cups of Golden Grahams Cereal
– 4 cups of salted Mini Pretzels
– 1 cup salted peanuts
– 1 1/4 cup Craisins or any dried cranberries
Melt 10 oz white chocolate (I used Trader Joe’s white chocolate chips) and stir in 1/8 tsp cinnamon and the zest from one orange. Pour over mixture and stir to coat. Pour onto baking sheet and sprinkle with Christmas colored decorating nonpareils (festive, but optional). Chill in fridge until chocolate hardens, then break apart into chunks. Store in an air tight container if there is any left over!
Enjoy!
