food as an art form

As a rule, I usually find more creativity and artistry in the recipe and taste of food, and not so much the presentation.  Give me a hole in the wall with a mouth watering specialty, and I’m all in.  Fancy schmancy  places are sometimes a distraction from the end all be all – a happy palate.  However, these artfully presented dishes from Wolvesmouth Dinner Club gave me pause – food almost too beautiful to eat.  I hope they make patrons check cameras at the door, as the paparazzi type environment these plates would invoke would be a blinding distraction to be sure…

As one of the top dining spots in LA, Wolvesmouth proves that dishes can be artful and delicious.  To appreciate food purely as an art form, Christopher Boffoli’s photo series Big Appetites is fascinating.  The butter sculptures by Jim Victor of rural and agricultural settings are fun and whimsical.   And we can all appreciate an “art that imitates life” cake, especially after watching a few episodes of Cake Boss.  Yes, it appears that food can be appreciated other than with a fork in hand.

Enjoy!
