There is something so much more intriguing about a homemade Halloween costume. Maybe it’s the creativity, thoughtful attention to detail, or the fact that it was made with love that makes it more appealing. Our house was all about playing dress up, so when Halloween rolled around, the question “what do you want to be for Halloween” meant October evenings working on this year’s masterpiece. And even later nights spent by mom and dad, sewing, painting and putting the final touches on the pièce de résistance that us kids wore proudly – over and over again.
Creating a home made costume is a satisfying exercise, as it stimulates your imagination and resourcefulness to problem solve so many DIY questions – a crafting case study, if you will. Not to mention time consuming; lucky for us Etsy has a renowned posse of crafters whiling away on this very problem. Either way, Halloween is a right of passage for most kids, and these are some great costume ideas to help them realize their inner character.
I love the interaction and expression of my 4 year nephew as he puts together his first Halloween costume below. Yay! Wall-e!!
Enjoy!
