Growing up in Canada, I was endlessly fascinated browsing the grocery aisles in other countries. The highlight of any visit was ending up in the junk food or cookie aisle to deliberate over all of the foreign delectables. After reading an article about Pepsi’s new Salty Watermelon flavored soda in the LA times by award winning food writer Jonathan Gold, I became deeply saddened by the lack of new flavor curiousities introduced to the US market. Sure, I talk a big game, but I can probably count on one hand how many soda’s I have had in the last year… well here is the last one I had after a day of snorkeling in Mexico. Orange soda never tasted so good after many mouthfuls of salt water.
So I guess I am not going to single-handedly support the introduction of myriad new flavors in the local market. All the more reason to travel abroad to satisfy this curiosity. And, travel calories don’t count. Bonus!
