Popcorn night and Oscars!

Ok, I must confess.  It’s all about the fashion.  Who doesn’t love dress up?  Of all the occasions to bring out the big guns This. Is. It.   I will even subject myself to Joan Rivers incessant nails-on-chalkboard commentary just to see all of that gorgeous sparkle, pouf, and tulle…

As much as I would love to get dressed up to watch the Oscar’s, common sense and comfort prevail.  The phrase “all dressed up with nowhere to go” comes to mind.  So, what better way to enjoy the evening in front of the TV, but with popcorn and soda?!?  In pajamas dressed up with a little bling of course…

I have been eye-balling Soda Stream machines for over a year now.  They fascinate me.  My curiosity for making soda from scratch must stem from stealing down into my grandma’s cellar to retrieve a bottle of home made root beer.  A whiff of that damp, earthy smell sends my back to fond childhood memories of pulling up the trap door and descending into a lair of preserves and potatoes.

Now the grown-up in me has me searching the internet for a DIY tonic recipe.  Of Gin & Tonic fame that is.  After being sidetracked by an amusing tale of tonic zen at portlandfoodanddrink.com, I found G&T bliss at utry.itYuzu Gin & Tonic.  My God! does this libation sound like music to my taste buds.  With this level of customization, I could become a G&T Master Mixologist! or an alcoholic…

What is a movie (or a movie award show!) without popcorn.  A quick browse at my go to food porn site, foodgawker.com, and I have plenty of tasty gourmet popcorn ideas to choose from.  I was thinking of adapting my sister’s killer Christmas munch mix recipe to include popcorn, but that stuff is not diet.  When balancing calorie selections with a G&T in one hand, you must choose wisely my padawan….

I have been hearing a lot about this brewer’s yeast lately and how people are becoming addicted to it.  AND it is diet!!  so when I came across the suggestion to use this as a popcorn topping at lemons & anchovies (how couldn’t you try something from such an awesomely named sited!), I think this might be a winner for everybody!
