Goals keep me focused. And energized. Especially since they always include a plan, with their partner in crime, the to do list. My nirvana. Each year, I set out to complete an item from my life list, and this his year I blissfully set out to complete a triathlon. Not the Ironman, nor the sprint distance, but the “Goldilocks” of the triathlon, the Olympic distance.

I have been going on and on lately about what a life saver Gobble is. For those who aren’t familiar, Gobble is a weekly service that delivers prepared meals that only take about 10 minutes to assemble and pop on the dinner table. Not naming any names here, but this service is very helpful in households where “someone” may not have an opinion on meal planning, grocery shopping, or any food preparation activities excluding actual consumption (you know who you are).

penny-take-one-leave-oneOver the past few years, you may have joined Inspiration Bug to stay abreast of our latest party ideas, a tasty sounding recipe or two (we have Jell-o!), or perhaps the endearing writing style of yours truly (!). But after a while the blog became very singularly focused, and less a reflection of my myriad interests and activities. Truth told, I got a little bored. However, the most important part of the blog was to build a community of curious and social minded peeps to share ideas and inspiration. And that mission still holds true. My mind has been on an exploratory mission of late, so I am setting out to reinvigorate the blog as an outlet for creativity and positivity. It may seem a little schizophrenic and jump around, but I hope you will find a little nugget of inspiration that speaks to you. Join me in exploring a virtual adventure park for adults (in a G-rated way). Be a sponge. Explore. Get inspired. Create. Share. Make a difference. And most of all, have fun! ...more

Of all the New Years resolutions I am embarking upon, I feel best about meatless Monday.  Hubs and I have been discussing more vegetarian meals leading up to the new year, ever since watching the documentary Forks over Knives.  Yes, I believe most people have too much meat in their diet, so count us in for 2 less carnivorous meals each week (breakfast is always meat-free at our house).

Here we are again at the start of a new year.  Where did the last one go?  The older we get the faster the years seem to fly by.  That’s why I love this time of year.  It is an opportunity to slow down, assess where you’re at, focus on the year ahead, set goals for yourself… you know the drill.  I keep my new year’s resolutions close by throughout the year in order to keep me on course.  This year, I am going to up the ante a bit, and assign actionable items to the usual “eat healthy, stay fit mantra”.  Exciting times ahead!

I have a confession to make.  This year, I bought a candle that smells like sugar cookies.  Something was askew as I strolled the aisles at Home Depot last weekend.  Baking? At the Home Depot?  For a second I thought I might be at Williams-Sonoma, but the lumberyard quickly brought me back to my senses.  Like a bloodhound, I had to find my way to the mouthwatering source of incongruity.  Et voila, a brightly colored display of holiday scents – from plug in to aerosol to my humble candle.  And so I brought the inspiration of Christmas cookies home with me – holiday spirit of baking, alight!!

OK party people, this stuff is the ticket.  Since I couldn’t find a recipe for this dee-lish snack mix online, I had to march myself into the kitchen to whip up a batch.  I was obsessing over it when it appeared the internet was devoid of the world’s most perfect flavor combination.   Tasting is believing!

Well, this is a new one… I googled the recipe for the AWESOME party snack mix I made a couple of years ago for Christmas gifts, and I couldn’t find it. What the what? An internet search doesn’t immediately deliver the precise results into your hot little hands in a mere 0.26 seconds? This is unheard of. Salivating through my round up of delicious home made sweet and savory snack mixes, I knew I had to share this fantastic little number – but where the heck was it hiding?

Well it’s just after Thanksgiving, and you know what that means… time to start preparing for Christmas.  Hey, it wasn’t my idea to replace the Halloween decorations with the Christmas ones, but here we are, up to our eyeballs in garland, ribbon, and all things sparkly.  And with the post-Thanksgiving tryptophan coursing through our veins, what better time to cozy up and start our Christmas crafting.

In reminiscing about the Thanksgiving holiday, I have come to the conclusion that I might just be the luckiest girl alive.  See how this T-day fairytale plays out…  Lucky fact # 1. As a transplanted Canadian, my side of the family celebrates Thanksgiving one month earlier, so no picking sides or doing the dinner table shuffle on a belly full of turkey required.  Lucky fact # 2. Destiny leads me to find the perfect match hubby while living in geographically remote and distant cities – the stars must have been aligned for that fortuitous connection.  Extended family are most awesome and completely normal.  Hurray!  We could stop here, but… Lucky fact # 3.  Hubby and said extended family hail from Korea.  Let the Korean Inspired Thanksgiving food extravaganza begin!
